Past Continuous Tense

A verb which expresses that some action was going on in the past by the time of speaking and the action was not over, it is called Past Continuous Tense.

Formation:

Subject "+" to be verb (was or were) "+" ing form of the verb.

I "+" was "+" writing.

We "+" were "+" writing.

He "+" was "+" writing.

Conjugation:

1. I was writing.

2. We were writing

3. You were writing. (Singular)

4. You were writing. (Plural)

5. He was writing.

6. She was writing.

7. It was writing.

8. They were writing.

9. John was writing.

10. Boy was writing.

11. She was writing.

Remember:

I, he, she, it , name and singular nouns take verb was.
We, You, They take verb were.

Past Continuous Negative Sentences:

Formation:

Subject "+" to be verb (was or were) "+" not "+" ing form of the verb.

1. I was not writing.
2. We were not writing
3. You were not writing. (Singular)
4. You were not writing. (Plural)
5. He was not writing.
6. She was not writing.
7. It was not writing.
